Ironlightsaber Customs

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL043.jpg)

It's been over year since I posted any images of my custom figs so I figure it's about time to post some more. Some were posted before, but I included them so all my mods would appear in a single thread. I just got this camera and it really doesn't do the figs justice but I figure some pics are better than no pics at all. I hope you enjoy.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL001.jpg)

"Admiral Ackbar" was one of my first mods I ever made and I got 4 stitches in my thumb making him. The exacto knife went right through the plastic and down to the bone in my thumb. You might be able to tell which mods were made while I had stitches :P. I made "Bespin Han" as a stand-in fig for nimzomitch until he pulled a RS Han. It was made from a Naboo Soldier and is rather blocky because it was only meant to be a stand in piece. The "Dead Rebel" was made by cutting up a Rebel Trooper, repositioning the pieces and gluing them back to the base.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL002.jpg)

These two E-Web Blasters are not mods but were made from scratch. I used plastic pieces left over from models, bits of metal, half of a Gonk Power Droid and some Sculpey to create them. I also made stat cards for it and other items that I hope to post for others to use. The stats and rules cards are from the Ultimate Mission books, except the rules on jumping which is a mix of all the different UM rules cleaned up into one.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL003.jpg)

Here are some modded "Scout Troopers-Running Toward the Fight". I just cut them at the waist, rotated them a little, glued it and then sculpted the waist to look correct. The arms were cut and pinned as well. The "Dead Trooper" fig was made like the above "Dead Rebel".

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL004.jpg)

These are my modded Imperial Officers-"Death Star Officer" was made from an Imperial Officer body with a Rebel Trooper head. "Imperial Officer-Being Choked" was made the body of the above mentioned Rebel Trooper with an Imperial Officer's head. "Imperial Officer-At Attention" was made from Tarkin's body with an Imperial officer's head. Tarkin's head was used for a different mod that you'll see later on.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL005.jpg)

This is a "Twi'lik Sith" with a couple of droid friends from the Death Star. The body of the "Twi'lik Sith" was made from a Klatooninian Enforcer with the head of a Twi'lik Scoundrel. I gave him two lightsabers and Sith tattoos on his lekku to add some personality. "The Death Star Droid" is just an R2 repainted to look like the droid found on the Second DeathStar and the "Interrogation Droid" was made completely from Sculpey. I included the front of the stat card I made for reference.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL006.jpg)

Here's my "Darth Vader-Who's Your Daddy?". The fig was made from RS Darth Vader-Dark Jedi. The scene it's from is still one of the best in all movies. I know that his lightsaber was off when he held his hand out to Luke but I decided to keep it on for the mini.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL007.jpg)

These are a couple of modded Tuskens. The two with staffs were cut, adjusted, pinned and sculpted into different poses. The Tusken on the Bantha and the Tusken on the left were cut at the waist and switched. I've seen that other people have done this switch as well; it's quite simple to do and I highly recommend it.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/IL008.jpg)

The "Oola-Doomed Dancer" was a Twi'lek Bodygaurd that was completely cut apart at all the joints, pinned and readjusted. I used the staff for the chain and positioned it to look like Jabba was pulling on it. "Bib Fortuna" was a Twi'lek Scoundrel and I hope that WOTC will make one with a CE that improves Jabba. "Boba Fett" was a CS Clone Trooper that I made as a stand-in until I finally got one (I ended up having to buy it).

Hey Ironlightsaber, Great game on New Years Eve!!!!!

I forgot to ask you, when you printed your 3D maps did you run into any problems?
Also where did you print them and what kind of paper did you use?
I want to print of a couple of the maps but I dont want to make to many mistakes and waste ink.
Thanks for any help you can give.
SaberCreator-I'm still tracking down the store for you, I haven't forgotten.

DarthMoose74-I just printed them at home and for the most part I didn't have any trouble. I did have to take some of the bigger pieces into Photoshop and split them into sections so I could print them on 8.5 X 11 cardstock. I use an exacto knife with a metal ruler and score all the fold lines to get clean folds.

New Year's Eve was a blast. I feel really lucky living in Nebraska and having so many cool people and places around here to play SWM. I would have never of thought that the middle of nowhere would be such a great place for this game to thrive.

Qui_Jon The Wotc modelers need to take notes from you. I can only imagine the cool figs we would be pulling out of boosters if you were the creative director for SW Minis.

Wow! Thanks!!!!!

I can't take all the credit, after all I am building on the work of others. Still, creative director for SWM or any art job working on SWM would be a dream job. Please WOTC contact me!!! :D

Also i don't know if it was you or some else that was looking for a General Grevious Jedi Hunter but "The Game Shoppe" has one for sale.
That was me and I was able to trade for it at the New Year's Eve Tourney. I have already modded it and I hope to post a pic soon.

Here's the start of some stats for the modded General Grievous, Jedi Hunter-

General Grievous, Hunter of Jedi
Cost-69
Hitpoints: 150
Defense: 20
Attack: +14
Damage: 20
*
Special Abilities:
Cyborg:Counts as a Droid and a non-Droid character; subject to critical hits and commander effects.
Fear:+2 Defense when attacked by an adjacent enemy with a force rating who is wounded.
Jedi Hunter:+4 Attack and +10 Damage against enemies with Force ratings.
Melee Attack:This character can attack only adjacent enemies.
Quadruple Attack:On it's turn, this character can make 3 extra attacks instead of moving.
Robotic Enhanced Reflexes:When this character takes damage from an adjacent attack it can make an immediate attack.
Speed 10:Can move up to 10 squares and attack, or 20 squares without attacking.
Unique

Force Powers:
Force: 2

Like I said, these stats are in the works and might change. I wanted his stats to reflect the character as he appears in the Clone Wars cartoon before he was badly wounded by Mace.

Let me know what you think.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

hey they may look great on the forums but they look even better in person
I really like the idea but speed 10? thats too broken mabe master speed for free or somthing but speed 10 is way too much. You may want to limit the Robotic Enhanced Reflexes to once per turn likewise...

Other than that it looks exactly how i would picture him CW style, all big and a complete badass jedi killer.
When you see him you'll want him to be Speed 24, trust me.

I was thinking about the first scenes of him in the cartoon. He was lighting fast against the Jedi and then again against the troopers who went in to save the surviving Jedi. He seemed to move quicker than even the Jedi could follow. In the movie he moves fast but not as quick as in the cartoon, so I thought I'd give him the unique power of Speed 10.

Any one else have any other suggestions?

I'm working on this card and the cards for some other mods shown above. Hopefully I'll post them soon.

Rogue9-Sorry it has taken so long to respond to your post. Here's some answers to some of the questions.

Sometimes I repaint the whole custom, sometimes just sections of color and sometimes I just touch up the spots that show. Keeping the colors basic and mixing small amounts (several drops of each color-a drop at a time as you mix) makes it easier to hit the tint.

I paint my figs for play and display. I like them to look like they belong with the rest of my pieces that I got out of the boosters but closer to the ones shown on the box art. I think that pinning is the best way to go I you plan on using them for play.

Since it took forever to respond here's your request. This will be the exception to the rule of no request. :P

I thought it might be helpful to show some different states of making some minis, so here's the current state of my Dark Trooper Commander and Gen. Obi on Speeder.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0611.jpg)

Obi has more cape, mullet hair and beard added (and a mustache to be cool like Dexter-The Boy Genius) and you can see the chopper speeder I've modded up. Also seen are some of the tools I use-cutting board, exacto knife, hand drill, pencil, pliers, sculpting knife (long point at one end and a curved, flat, small double blade on the other end-VERY HANDY) super glue and contour putty used on models. Not shown is the 18" metal ruler that is handy for Magic Eli and other's 3D terrain.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0625.jpg)

The Dark Trooper has been pinned to it's base and both have some of their first layers of primer paint. I would have been finished with these but I got distracted on the new Grievous mod. I hope to have him and his card done by the beginning of February.

Here's the cards that I mentioned in my first post from the beginning of this thread. The hosting service I use is free; however, they also scale images they feel are too large--so the resuloution is not as great as the originals. But like the pictures, something is better than nothing.

I set up the following cards so they can be printed on card stock; back to back. I suggest using an exacto knife and a metal ruler to cut them out.

Of course:

-These are set up for my printer and it tends to pull in paper at an angle, so you might need to adjust for your printer.

-Like the minis I mod, this is not all just my work but also the work of many others. I didn't invent the all the stats or all the pieces of the art used.

-The font used is called Agency and I don't know how you can get it. If some one knows please let everyone else know where to find it.

-And of course all of the Star Wars stuff belongs to Lucas and the game stuff to WOTC. This is fan made and for the fan community.

Stats for the ARC Commander by Nimzomitch. The image on the card is based on one of his four ARC Commander mods. The stats for the rest are from the Ultimate Missions books. It makes it way easier to play some of the missions using these cards.

These cards are really helpful when using Huges. Can't squeeze? Then just blow down the wall part of the wall and go through!!!

The rules for falling, jumping and climbing are a combination of the UM books and some from play testing with Nimzomitch and Klecster.

Valance is from "The Hunt Within" scenarios on the web based on the Marvel comic books.

Iron,

One of the things that has always bugged me about lightsaber-users in SW minis is the "curved lightsabers" that happen once the figs are boxed. I remember you saying at the New Year's Eve tourney that you found those hard, transparent rods at a train store. Which one was that exactly? I would like to rip the goofy bent lightsabers out of some of my figs and replace them with something like what you use.

The new figs you posted are fantastic.
I thought it might be helpful to show some different states of making some mimis, so here's the current state of my Darktrooper Commander and Gen. Obi on Speeder.

.

I just saw that OBI 1 today over at IronLightsabers tonight, and might I say :
"WoW, That is awesome. very very good job. I cannot wait to see the finished MoD.
any way thought I'd bump this thread up for ya again.
Hey those custom Clone troopers are really cool! Now it's got me trying to think up a costum paint job for my clone army. One thing I wanna do is make my clone trooper squad without their helmets on. Iron lightsader, have you ever thought of making the clone elite trooper in a different pose? It seems to me that the clone elite guys look different then they did in the movies. For example in the movie they wore backpacks and areas that were white are gray on the figure. kinda buggs me. Anyways I really like all the costum stuff though it's really cool!
Well I tried to make a custom Trooper unit of my own. I really don't know much about modifying them but It did manage to use some clay I had to make some Kamas and then I painted them up with a sea blue that matches the senate Guards to show their loyalty to the senate rather than to Palpatine.

Heres the background story I made for my unit;
Well you all know about how much of the the Republic Senate was suspicious of the Chancellor and about the battle of coruscant in the beginning of episode three. Well thats where my "clone" unit comes in. The republic decided to form a battalion of troopers recruited from various planets of the republic rather than clones (whom some were noticing had a shocking loyalty to Palpatine alone) in order to better defend Coruscant from future attack wile also creating a fighting force that could not be manipulated by any one member of the senate.

Considering that my trooper unit is made up of non clones I'd like to call them "Senate Troopers" or "Republic Troopers" rather than clone troopers/gunners and to remove thier Order 66 effect but that'd prolly be cheating huh?

Anyhoo heres the picture I took of them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/KnightErrant/MyRepublicTroopers.jpg
good job, Knight, they remind of arc troopers.
Ironlightsaber, I beg you... please sell some of your stuff on eBay!!! That stuff is beyond words! You Rock!

(I'm serious about the eBay thing)
good job, Knight, they remind of arc troopers.

heh heh thanks and yeah I noticed that aswell when they were done. My origional intention was to make em look like they would be fighting alongside Senate Guards but seeing as nobody around here sells the Clone strike set I guess having them look like ARCs is about as close as I'll get to having one.
@ironlightsaber: :OMG!
Absolutely amazing!!!! Great customs!!!!!
I would like to see the reverse sides of the cards for some of them, especially the e-web.
The fronts and backs of the cards can be found at links above (they are in the post with the pictures of the modded Dark Trooper and Gen. Obiwan Kenobi on Speeder with primer paint). The first 2 links have the e-web blaster.

Here they are again--

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/1-4-Custom-Cards-Front.gif

They are set up for printing, so they appear on one side for the front of the card and on the other side for the backs of the cards. It makes it easy to print and cut them this way.

Sorry. i figured that out after posting, and there's no way to delete posts, and if there is, i haven't heard of it.

So Iron Lightsaber,
When are we gonna see some more of your wonderful mods?

Photobucket
BUMP!!

Sorry but you have to add more minis!!
You asked for it, so here's an update. The first image is not of Star Wars minis but of some superheroes that were made from many different sources including Star Wars Minis. I thought that you guys might get a kick out of them.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0692.jpg)

They are based on superheroes created by old friends and myself for the old Marvel Superheros RPG that came out in the late 80's and also characters from a comic book I worked on in the late 90's called "The Sanguine Season".

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0693.jpg)

The figure on the right was a custom I made for Klecser of his Star Wars RPG character named "Klecser". She is a heavily modded Iktotchi Tech Specialist that I gave to him as a wedding present last summer. The fig on the right is a custom I made for Darth Omron of (you guessed it) "Darth Omron" this last fall. It is a ROTS #8 Clone Trooper with a jet pack that I made from Sculpey and then created the blast effect with metal wire and contour putty.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0695.jpg)

Now for some recent work. I made "Captian Panaka" (the biggest pessimist in the SW universe) from a CS Naboo Soldier and very, very thinly rolled Sculpey that was sculpted into the desired shapes for the skirt and the back of the hat. I made several of the skirt pieces at one time in case the first one (or second or third) broke while trying to get it around the waist of the fig. I glued it on as soon as I got it out of the oven because while it it is warm Sculpey is still some what flexible.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0696.jpg)

This guy is the finished "Dark Trooper Commander with Rail Gun" that I have shown in updates on this thread. I gave him a paint scheme to match my clone squad and to set him apart from other Dark Troopers. The rail gun was made from metal wire and (you guessed it) Sculpey. I am working on a card for him, Panaka and others--when I have them all done I'll post them.

The last modded fig is one that I have probably modded the most out of all of the figs I have ever done. It's "General Obi Wan Kenobi on Speeder Bike" based on the image from the great Clone Wars cartoon by Cartoon Network.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0666.jpg)
IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0697.jpg)

I completely removed the driver of the BARC and then proceeded to cut apart the bike piece by piece. I dropped the engine down below the frame and custom built the fins and the helmet piece. I moved parts of the old fin and mounted it on the back. Obi is a combination of the body of the BARC driver with Wedge Antilles's head. A cape (with some extra created from Sculpey) and sword from a UH Young Jedi Knight were used. Now that I've finished him I really want to make a "Durge Droid Commander on Speeder". :P

Last are some snowspeeder 3D paper models by Momir Farooq which can be found here:

http://www.momirfarooq.com/index.htm

on stands that have been modify that I found on this thread:

http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=554433

and can be found on:

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0699.jpg)

I modified this one by adding a harpoon and tow cable created from super glued string that has been painted. Thanks to everyone for sharing your work.

Well that's it for now. I hope to post some cards and some photos of what I am currently working on.

Those look appropriate for entry into the February modifying contest . . .
Holy Crap Awesome Obi!!!
OBI WAN KENOBI IS AWESOME!!!
You need to make a big white comic book thought bubble coming out of Panaka's head that says:

"The Jedi suck! We are all doomed! We might as well just shoot ourselves in the heads right now! The Separatists are gangstas! The Hutts are gangstas! The Jedi are gangstas! You can't expose her highness to gangstas!"

;):D
I remember commenting on this when Omron first got his custom, but that fire coming out of the jetpack is really cool. Did you make that?

Oh and by the way:
can i have that yoda that is cutting off the clone's head
No.

Here's a pic that got away....

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0703.jpg)

Poggle the Lesser!!!!! I'm working on his card now and hope to play test it along with a couple others and will post them soon.

A friend of mine did me a big favor not once, but three times and took some nice pictures of my minis. I thought you might want to see one.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/DTP3Commander.jpg)

Thanks Dustin, the photos are great.

If anyone has an idea for Commander Effects for him or Poggle let me know.

I'm busy working on many projects and I thought I would share the making of one. So here's the start of my Grievous mod.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0595.jpg)

Because Grievous is not a cheap fig I knew I had to have a good idea in my head of what I wanted to make. I thought of doing the scene of when he was spinnng his blades but I decided to go with a pose of him engaging in a fight instead of approaching one. So when I had the idea in mind I made a quick sketch.

IMAGE(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c142/ironlightsaber/HPIM0594.jpg)

After the drawing I studied the fig carefully to decide where to cut apart the fig. Three of the arms are cut at the shoulder and one at the elbow. I removed the shin section of the left leg. I carefully removed the head and I cut the rib section in an inverted "v" cut from the waist. Finally using a hand drill, I drilled holes in the center of the new cut surfaces.

That's it for now.....

I really think these are worth seeing...

For Poggle the Lesser maybe something that cancels out Nute Gunray's Commander Effect
i'd just like to congratulate you on being so amazing at this. If i spent 50 years i couldnt even make one half as goo as any ofyours i bow down to your amazing ness and ppraise the gifts you have :D
