It is more of a concept/pantheon than a single being. The Beyond (alternatively known as The Gray Beyond, The Gray, and The Great Beyond, varying depending on the religious sect and language being used) is a vague, purgatorial zone where the recently dead reside, their souls and spirits awaiting judgment, transport, and ferrying to the plane of their eternal destiny. The Beyond is filled with semi-permanent residents; ghosts, shades, wraiths, and spirits of those who have unfinished business driving them to maintain a link to the Prime Material Plane. The denizens of the The Gray have a variety of strengths and powers; priests of The Beyond often call to these dwellers in particular to serve them and power their spells. The denizens of The Gray have many names; often referred to as Gray Walkers or Gray Ones. Priests of The Beyond may draw spell power from the stronger spirits, or may call forth pieces of the essence of The Gray Ones or The Beyond itself to power their spells; often this is referred to as “feeling the embrace of The Gray,” or “the Touch of the Gray;” spells such as spiritual weapon are more “ethereal bits of Gray Ones manifest on the Prime.” Worshippers of The Beyond focus on spells involving life and death, and many specialize in calling forth The Gray Walkers to serve on the Prime, using their spirits to enchant corpses and cadavers and employing a variety of undead (animated, or rebuked) under their command. The Gray Beyond is a violent church, as the conduit through The Gray must be filled with as many spirits and souls as possible to maintain its strength; many high priests have conspired to start or prolong wars, fuel assassinations and gladiatorial games, and in general focus on spreading death and destruction throughout the land. The favored weapon is any bow, representing the touch of The Beyond from afar; domains include Fire (representing the fire of life, though often clerics who take this domain try to learn how to substitute Cold energy as they grow in power, more becoming the Gray Ones and less harmful to undead allies), Death, Destruction, and War. In Gladius, the leader of The Gray Cathedral is known as The High Reaper. Qwuibbik is rising in the church ranks, and is one of the most renowned priests of this sect.
