This is a separate thread for Ashtin to fight three large, serpentine monsters.
If you are not myself or Uknits, please reserve any comments for the Fights of the Week thread and do not post here. This fight takes place in the Arena. The lighting is normal. Ashtin begins in area 4. Please state starting position, items in hand and initial actions.
Start front center with mindblade and antitoxin in hand. If not seen, use boots and fly up to 30', then drink antitoxin and move out, seeking. If seen, let me know what I see and I will update from there.
You see one of the monsters glittering in the sun up in area 1:
Ashtin sees the scaly serpant and frowns. 3 monsters could be either vry good or disaterous. He put aside his doubts, though, and clicked his heels together, flying up and towards them.
Use winged boots and move up 35'. Next round, use antitoxin, fly to the cieling and towards them.
Ashtin flies directly upwards (speed 60ft means you can only reach 30ft elevation) and drinks his antitoxin [+5 vs Poison, ends 1 hour]
The creature ahead of him casts something, ignoring him. However, a second serpent slithers rapidly from behind a pillar and turns towards Ashtin. A tiny bead hurls towards him, exploding in a burst of fire! As Ashtin flies towards the creature, he spies a third in the same area. The first one keeps casting, but the second follows up with another Fireball. Map Show ![]() You take 12 and 14 damage from Fireballs, so you're on 97/123.
Speed of thought affects fly speeds, so I have a 70' fly speed.
Ashtin smiles, perfrming his standar dive in at the first creature. Dive attack the blue one, expending focus for deep impact and using full power atack for 1d10+21+20 doubled from the dive +4d8 psychic strike with +17 to hit as a touch attack.
OK, you will be further forwards in that case, then.
Ashtin swoops down at the nearest could-be-a-naga, striking down powerfully at the beast for a phenomenal 115 damage, slaying it instantly. Ouch. My poor babies! The other two naga creatures cast more spells, and move to attack. ![]() You're at 10ft altitude, I'm guessing (since you dived down to hit the first monster). The green one flies up to 15ft whilst the pink one slithers along the floor.
Ashtin smiles as the Naga's head rolls off. He then flies to corner the foolish Naga who remained grounded as he slashes in.
Move to 34,52 and attack the pink Naga. Take AoO against the pink naga if given the choice.
Ashtin floats over to his next target, and his mindblade strikes true, dealing a greivous wound to the creature.
Hissing in anger, the naga cast again (defensively, so no AoO for you). This time, their images begin to blur and distort, and suddenly, they appear to have shifted a few feet. If that was a teleportation spell, it was somewhat ineffective, but Ashtin can see their images still flickering and wavering. EDIT: The one in the air moves towards you and lands, Tumbling so as to avoid an AoO. ![]() Ashtin's prowess is disgusting - although, I guess I'm partly to blame for moving them closer when I forgot they hadn't finished buffing.
Ashtin smiles at their positioning as he holds his mindblade aloft. He swings in for a powerful strike, but the mindblade shatters into fragments as it swings, shards slicing into both creatures.
Bladewind to attack both. We'll go with 3 point of power attack for +22 to hit and 1d10+27 damage. Also, don't forget if I did more than 50 damage he has to make a DC 15 fort savew or die.
Ashtin's blade fragments into a whirlwind of death. The mirrored swords slice right though the wounded Naga, but the image flickers... and appears a few feet to the left!
Bad positioning on my part there - again - but anyway, you miss both due to Concealment. With what sounds like a chuckle, one of the creatures (Pink) casts again, and it's flickering outline seems to dance and move even faster. Moving in from behind, the other strikes at Ashtin with lightning speed. Luckily for him, he is able to dart away just in time. ![]() By the way, which one are you Dodging?
We'll say pink.
Ashtin frowns at the shifting, but the concern wuickly fades to a smile as he swings in his blade, focusing on dropping the pink naga. Full attack the pink one, 3 points power attack again. If I drop it on the first swing, recharge psychic strike.
Ashtin strikes at the naga, and for a moment it looks as though he will strike another head shot, but at the last minute the naga twists away, and the blow leaves it badly injured but still alive.
I'm just going to use the damage roll I accidentally rolled for you earlier when I forgot Concealment Hissing in anger, the naga casts again - and vanishes from sight! (You don't hear where, if anywhere, it goes) Roaring, the other one opens its maw and unleashes a jet of flame at you. You take 14 damage from the breath weapon, so you're on 83, I think.
As the other vanishes, Ashtin focuses his attention on the one in front of him, swinging in with a pair of blows.
Full attack the one I can see.
Ashtin turns around and slices at the remaining creature, his blade biting deep.
He hears the sound of powerful wings coming from somewhere nearby, but he doesn't see the invisible serpent. It sounds like it's at (41,55,7) - i.e. 30ft elevation - but you're not sure. In response, the visible creature lashes forwards, moving impossibly quickly, its teeth biting deep. Blood spurts from the wound as Ashtin grimaces. It crits for 40 damage, leaving you on 43/123. You do make your save against the poison, though.
Ashtin grimaces at theperfect hit, retaliating with his own assault.
Full attack again.
Ashtin presses the assault. Despite the creature's shimmering form, he manages to draw more blood, but it's not dead yet.
Suddenly, in a flurry of wings, the previously-injured creature comes hurtling out of nowhere, his razor teeth biting deep. You take 19 damage. I had thought this should be doubled since it deals all kinds of damage, but the bit which mentions claw and talon attacks only mentions those (I think we have rules that the piercing/slashing thing superceeds that, but bite specifically is conspicuous by its absense) Anyway that would leave you on only 24 health. The other naga, now quite badly wounded, follows its fellow's example and vanishes. EDIT: Here is a map Map Show
Ashtin frowns at the Naga's tricks, but he immediatley spins around, driving his mindblade into the naga.
Full attack the visible naga. Also, I see I rolled a 19, but no threat roll. If I drop the naga on blow 1 and have a free move action, move up 30'.
Ah drat, I noticed the 19 but forgot to roll it. You and your high rolls, you've had 18s, 19s and 20s this battle (though the naga did get a crit too).
Yup, it was a crit. Your AB is a bit too good for these guys' AC.
The naga's teeth bit deep, but Ashtin quickly whirls 'round and strikes again with his sword, lopping off the creature's head. Ashtin flies up to 30ft as he searches for the other naga. Another crit. Did I mention you are getting disgusting rolls? You hear movement ending at (33,45), on the ground - I'm assuming that you need to hear it at the end of its movement to pinpoint where it went.
But the naga still have a higher average attack roll.
Ashtin concentrates, his blade rippling with energy as he poises throw. Refresh psychic strike and ready to throw on sight. Also, if it cast CLW, I should get a listen check to hear casting.
Well, yours is skewed by some shoddy Listens early on.
![]() You hear casting at (30,42,1). Keep readying? Man the rules are weird - he can hit you from nowhere, flat-footed, and you still get to take your ready action first?
Move to 30,42 at a 10' elevation over the ground and ready to attack on sight.
You hear casting from (32,47)... but it also sounds like it's 15ft below the ground, so you're not quite sure where it's actually coming from.
Ashtin frowns at the creature's invivibility, his hand of glory still recharging from hours earlier. He flies up 30 feet before readying.
Move back up 30' and ready as before.
Ashtin calms his mind, regaining his focus.
He hears the sound of wings. Suddenly, the naga re-appears in front of him, lunging forwards with an attack! The attack misses, despite Ashtin being flat-footed, but since I forgot to add in a certain modifier in previous rounds, I'm afraid to tell you that Ashtin is actually only on 15/123. EDIT: I had him flying just above you, but actually there isn't room below the ceiling since you're at 40ft and he's Large, so he's just adjacent.
Ashtin chuckles at the foolish creatures attack. Revealing himself in melee? He brings his mindblade to bear, swinging in his mighty blade.
Full attack with 2 points power attack. If he provokes an AoO for moving next round (which he probably will without the ability to hover), expend focus for full power attack and deep impact on it.
Ashtin frowns in frustration and determination at its shifting form as he charges it.
Charge attack, 4 points of power attack.
Ashtin again flies in again, attacking more cautiously than before.
Move and attack, no power attack. He can't keep recasting displacement (I hope).
Ashtin swoops in. Wise to the naga's tricks, he brings him blade 'round wide, cleaving into its jugular. Mortally wounded, it tumbles to the ground, where it lands with a splat!
Ashtin was fighting three Half-Gold-Dragon Spirit Naga

They buff with Mage Armour, Shield of Faith, Bull's Strength and Divine Favour, then fly out looking for Ashtin. If they see him right away, Naga 1 will attack from range (using Fireball or Magic Missile) whilst the others buff, then that one will finish buffing whilst they engage. Right before attacking, they buff with Displacement. Nagas 2 and 3 attack in melee, taking it in turns to cast Haste, whilst Naga 1 uses Fireballs and Magic Missiles (Tumbling away when necessary and using Invibility to flee if cornered). As soon as they are able, they breathe fire at Ashtin. If any of the Naga are injured to below 40 health, they will cast Invisibility, flee, heal with CLW, then rejoin the fight from the best tactical angle. The Naga always cast defensively and seek to flank and to get the advantage of higher ground; however, conscious that their manouevrability is average, they prefer to keep the battle on the ground when possible. [Note: I forgot to use fire breath from the get-go, so ended up using it half-way through]
