This is a quest for Qwuibbik to acquire 2 yeth hound skeletons.

After successfully embalming Shellie, Qwuibbik headed down to a tavern frequented by goblins.  Sure enough, a newcomer was telling of the exploits of his tribe.

"And then we killed that cleric, lots of us hit him till he was dead.  And then we shot his dogs full of arrows...they were flying dogs, see, and all scary-looking, but we killed them.  I got one of 'em in the throat, see if I don't become a leader when I get back.  My brother got the other, but he needed more help than I did."

"You've been telling that same story for months now", commented another goblin.  "Rule is, you can't brag about it after there's nothing left of the body."

"You just made that rule up.  And there is too something left of the dogs' bodies, the animals wouldn't touch them, so we just left 'em there."

Now things were starting to sound interesting to Qwuibbik.

Qwuibbik's eyes twinkled at the conversation, and he looked up from his goblet of wine; he was so intent on the conversation that he accidentally sipped from his formaldeyhde flask, crinkling his nose at the foul concoction, the stubby priest murmured a prayer to the Black and glanced over at the goblins.  Qwuibbik motioned for the barmaid, slipping her 2 silvers and asking her to buy the pair a flagon.

He then slid off his cushioned chair and hobbled over to the newcomer, greedily rubbing his crinkled, cracked fingers together, his blackened, ink-stained nails clicking together.  Licking his lips, the goblin cleric murmured to the newcomer, "Did you say... flying dogs?  You must be a mighty warrior to bring down a flying dog..."  Qwuibbik eyed the newcomer up and down.  "You of course observed the proper rituals; took the brains, with a piece for the Black and a piece for the Gray, and removed the choice organs... you didn't leave the eyes to the birds, did you?"  Qwuibbik's speech came in a rush, before he caught himself.  "Urrm, um... yes, ahem.  It was really a flying dog?  Could you take us to see the shell, the remains?"

The bragging goblin turned to the other.  "See, someone appreciates what I pulled off."  He turned back to Qwuibbik.  "Sure, I'd be happy to.  It's not too far, just on the other side of the forest to the east of town.  Meet me here early tomorrow, and I'll show you the way."

The following day, Qwuibbik and the goblin (who identified himself as Grenkle) headed out.  They reached the forest late that afternoon, and set up camp.  The second day passed without incident.  On the morning of the third day, they found an animal (neither goblin knew enough to identify it) rooting through their supplies.  "Hey, watch this", yelled Grenkle, and shot an arrow at the animal, which ran off with the arrow in its side.

They set out, and after an hour reached the end of the forest.  "Not much longer now", commented Grenkle, and they headed across the plains.  Three hours later, Grenkle turned around.  "Hey, what's that?  Is that that animal from the forest?"  Sure enough, it was heading to them.  It was also wearing a cloak of some sort.  "Wait a second...what happened to my arrow?"  Grenkle panicked.  "I'll go get help, you hold it off."  Somehow, Qwuibbik knew that Grenkle wouldn't be back in time to provide any help...as the creature drew closer, he saw it was wearing some sort of amulet as well.

Ok, here's your enemy.   Some sort of animal, medium size, and it's mad.  And someone put a cloak and amulet on it, but you don't seem to see them...

The map is the plains, so location is irrelevant, but it's 400 feet away.

I assume Whumpus, riding dog steed, is here as well?

With a sigh and a momentary backwards glance, Qwuibbik mumbles something about giving the fickle Grenkle a taste of the Black.  Turning to towards the angry animal, Qwuibbik prays fervently that today is not his day to fall and rise again, and wards himself in divine blessings.  He squints his beady eyes off towards the distance, wondering if this strangely garbed animal has a master, and whether they are about as well.  He grumbles, "it doesn't look like a dead flying dog, that's for sure."

Cast shield of faith, draw wand of produce flame.

Yes, he is.  Are you riding him?

As Qwuibbik wards himself, the animal runs closer.  It's now only 240 feet away.

Yes; always ride for cover if possible, otherwise will detail actions after that.

Fearful of the savage creature, Qwuibbik guides Whumpus farther back while wreathing his hand in unholy coldflame.

Use Wand of Produce flame (cold) and move back

The creature sees Qwuibbik and shimmers.  When its form clarifies again, it is bipedal, sporting dangerous-looking claws and wearing crude clothing.  It continues toward Qwuibbik.

It is now 290 feet away.

"This is the strangest dead flying dog I have ever seen..." mutters Qwuibbik, thinking his cloistered brethren may have had the right of it, studying about the various creatures in the world.  Qwuibbik had always styled himself as more a Blade of the Black, a sword to do the bidding of Those Who Dwell Beyond, however.  Cautious, Qwuibbik calls upon their blessings once more, as he gently steers Whumpus back still further.

Cast Bless, move back further; also draw wand of divine favor.

As Qwuibbik calls down more blessings, the creature pulls a potion out of the pocket and drinks it.

You are now 330 feet away, with both hands full.

Use wand of divine favor, stow it.
I will be away lots of this weekend Fri-Sun - if you want to proceed, tactics should be pretty straightforward at this point:
--Until within 160', Draw bow and fire
(although it is metagaming, would probably use silver arrows)
--Once within 160', produce flame (either single move and throw, or move and ready, trying to keep it a thrown-produce-flame fight as long as possible; unless he's resistant)
--Once within 80', hold person (CdG w/ flames if successful and if they're hurting him, otherwise with weapon)

Qwuibbik squints at the wounded-clothed-animal-turned-biped-potion-drinker, confused as to what foe this may be, and calls upon more dark blessings.
