Yes folks - it is about that time That time when I make a more-than-concerted effort to get some words down on the page. When I started doing this, I was hopeful that it would get me writing more in the off-season. Unfortunately, that hasn't really happened. Welcome to November: National Novel Writing Month! However, I'm not deterred by this. I have attempted and completed two years in a row; this year will be my third year. No questions. I'll link to my blog posts here (or I might just post them directly here - not sure yet). I have no clue what I'm going to be working on this year. In 2010 - it was a modern fantasy and last year a high fantasy. I've been doing some stream of consciousness writing lately to limber-up my fingers and it has me thinking about doing something more "avant-garde" - but that might be a little ambitious for a 1-month challenge. My calendar did offer me some inspiration by pointing out that grizzly bears have a better sense of smell than hounds... picture a world where instead of hunting dogs or drug-sniffing dogs or whatever-type-of-dogs - they used grizzly bears Its an idea. I have no plot to go with it, but it would be interesting to make it work somehow. I have some intent on doing something very much outside of my comfort zone - mystery or maybe something of a fictional memoir, but I'm still dancing around the details. NaNoWriMo 2011NaNoWriMo 2010Mantra for the month (and for the year):
The good days are when you perform; the slow days are when you learn to perform better. The only bad days as a writer are the ones when you are too cowardly or too lazy to sit down at the keyboard and give it everything you have.

Last year, I reviewed a couple of pieces of software for larger documents and eventually settled into WriteWay. I had some initial problems with the software, but after the initial hiccups, I had no problems with it. At the end of the month, I did end up purchasing it - so I will be using it again this year. If I get any planning ready for the novel - it will get nice and organized in there

I suggested a Gamma World novel.
Electric felinoid and her potted plant friend uncover plot by pure strain human secret society to attack a town. The town found a mech but couldn't power it. The felinoid powers the mech to saves the town from the humans. Some other groups detects the mech powering up. They destroy the town but the felinoid, plant and giant intelligent mole escape.
Telin seems to think it's not for him.

Went to bed early last night instead of writing... worst. decision. ever...
Ended up having a terrible night of sleep. I will have to get a good amount of writing done today to make up for it.
Welcome to November people. NaNoWriMo 2012!
