Would Detect Psionics (or Magic, by transparency) be sufficient to find Bilgly, even if not to pinpoint him? Bilgly is a PsiWar and he seems to have used Chameleon every time so far. Certainly by L3, Detect Hostile Intent would be very useful, though only in a 30ft radius.

A 60ft cone is not very precise and with 3 rounds to concentrate to pinpoint, it wouldn't be too useful. If you were fast enough on single move actions - I guess it could work - but you'd have to be pretty fast (so you can move up and base to stop the concentration).

(and powerful build is subsumed when using alter self).
Powerful Build: "The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category." So surely it would stack? I guess is Powerful Build is considered Extraordinary, it would be lost during Alter Self. You could presumably stack either of them with Expansion, though (no Enlarge Person for Giants).

Yes it would stack with Expansion, but the powerful build is lost in changing form (as is any number of other qualities of races - dwarven resistance to poison and stability, etc)

Well, in terms of reach at least, Powerful Build offers little benefit, so using Alter Self to take on, say, Ogre Mage form, and then using Expansion would offer certain benefits, especially if Metamorphic Transfer let you take Flight. The only problem is that you need either three caster levels or a lot of UMD (which isn't a PsiWar skill) to make Alter Self available. Easier just to get Metamorphosis.
By the way, what would you guys recommend as ranged options? I kitted Ialia out with some javelins (and a spiked gauntlet to use for any unlikely AoOs whilst she has them out). I guess though that she can Feint and make touch attacks just fine with a ranged weapon equipped, so it might be wiser to think of the rapier as a secondary attack but I have her using a shield which precludes the use of most ranged weapons other than throwing weapons.

Buckler and bow are a classic combo. If you have mage skill, a wand of Magic Misle for 750 is a non-missing 1d4+1. Alternativley, some cheap scrolls of expedious retreat for +30 speed are a good way to ensure you won't need a ranged weapon.

Hmm. Ialia has no arcane capabilities and is a bit low on cash after splashing out on a Dorjie of Biofeedback. She's also at her cap on expendables, though what with all the defensive stuff there I could probably lose some in favour of a Power Stone of Skate or two.
Buckler + Bow sounds good, but I don't really want to give up the shield's extra defence if I don't need to, given I was really just after a backup weapon after I realised she had no ranged capabilities. Entangle for example could cause a big problem. That's why she has a couple of Power Stones of Mind Thrust at ML2, good for finishing an injured foe or shooting someone down at range, but expensive at 50gp each.
I quite like the javelins since she can keep her shield, but it would be nice to have something with a longer range. 30ft looks like the best I'm going to get without reworking her other equipment, though.

Powerstones of skate for 25 gp each. A speed of 45 will let you catch most people. Mind thrust can also be enlarged for free for 60 foot range instead of 30 foot.
