I've been tracking the performance (in terms of numbers of posts) per play by post group since May 2010 and providing the numbers to the other GMs of the groups. I decided to push the results of this survey out, not only because I feel it is a good way to link to the various groups but to hopefully get people involved with the process. State of the PbP Groups: February 2011Feel free to leave comments here or with the blog post itself.

It's interesting - I think it's hard to find new places around here. I've been here a while, and I have no idea what the difference between PbP Haven and RA is. Nor do I know which I'd rather try out.
I wonder if, headache of doing so aside, it wouldn't be worthwhile to make all of these subforums of one general forum - with clear ways to navigate from one to the other.
Like the CoCo frontpage has 4e, 4eMonster, and 3.5. Why couldn't there be a central PbP site that had only links to RA, PbP, and CoCo, and then RA/PbP would not have to have a separate "gladiatorial combat" thread or whatever is there, and redundancies would be eliminated, and membership would mix more...
It seems like things that could sync up better are so separated... I'm sure I'd love posting on some of the RA threads, and I'm certain some of the RA people would (have) posted here. And playing is just one step away - and not even a very big or hard step...

There was a group that was set up to be a "hub" of the PbP groups. Unfortunately, the kind member who set that up didn't do much with it (I'll have to search to find it at this point.
As for why we wouldn't be able to combine - there's a number of reasons.
a) Biggest and foremost - each group has its own politics and policies. The Core only aspect of the CoCo is very different from the more "anything goes" of the PbP Haven and RA.
b) Next is clutter. We have a fairly organized forum that is easy to keep up with because there's not a huge amount of traffic. However, even if traffic did pick up - unless you keep track of all of the posts in here - it is unlikely to be too much. If we incorporated the 50k+ posts of the RA and the 20k+ posts of PbP haven, etc - this becomes too much for any individual to manage.
Those are the top two that I can think of. Certainly there's ways to manage it - but I don't have time to go into it right this second.
Oh - and RA and PbP haven are basically the same (though PbP haven is a little more relaxed about starting games, but is also a little more "flighty" IMO). They were originally in two very separate parts of the forum, then got moved together (with us) into General Gaming when Gleemax closed down. Now they serve similar functions, but neither one would be going away because they are quite large on their own.

*Bounty Hunter finds irony in just now locating this thread.*
I'm sad to see Terisia City dead but I cant revive it and I cant seem to get group leader of it from some who no longer logs on. So I need to either barter with the Gleemax Group to make a casual freeform subforum there, or I need to make a do over of Terisia and start from scratch.
Life choices, life choices.

State of the PbP Groups: July 2011For those following along - this has been a good month for a number of the groups. I would love to have the CoCo be really featured next month - but that depends on all of us really breaking through and posting a lot. So do that

These blog posts have been featured more than a few times in Wrecan's Heroes of Blogging series of blogs. Well, wrecan just posted his First Annual 2011 HoBby awards and I received some very kind words from him. Wrecan is a tremendous force in this community - everyone would do well to read at least a few of his very useful, innovative blogs.

September's numbers are up. The CoCo did better than each of the last couple of months in terms of actual post count, though not by much. I'm hopeful that the competition will bring in some more players of course, but only time will tell on that front.

Last night, while doing another run of the Lair Assault, I put in a hearty call to have people come and play at the CoCo. Still not sure if anyone will be coming as a result - but I do think I am going to make some new flyers and bring them down...

I'm woefully behind on birthday credits, but at the same time, I realized I should be utilizing the list to hopefully get people back to the CoCo. So the great "PM your Birthday credits" drive has begun. A total of 12 credits have been handed out to those I could contact on the October list. Who knows - maybe some of them will come back and say hi.
If your birthday is on the list and I missed it recently - send me a PM and I'll take care of it. If it isn't on the list - get your birthday on there gosh darn it! 2 free credits are just like 2 earned credits - but they're FREE!
Enjoy!
