Yay - the CoCo is a Featured Group today No - it doesn't do much but give us another avenue of visibility. We've been growing pretty well this month so far aside from that - which is all good in my book. Keep up the good work gents!

I've added a link to us via the Main D&D page in the Wiki. The page gets a huge number of views - I just hope some people will actually click on the links. Selfishly, I want to get on the "Most viewed" topics list for the wiki. Its a shot in hell since it is dominated by the Char Op topics - but hey a goal is a goal. Currently the main CoCo page is sitting at 1700 views while the lowest "most viewed" topic is in the 9k range. We've got our work cut out for us We're still featured and I am happy that we reached 60 members so quickly (after taking about a month to gain 10 members - we just did 10 in less than 2 weeks).

That's a great post, and a worthy goal. Have you (or anyone, I suppose) ever tried or thought of having a contest to stir up interest? I know there was talk about a grand melee, but it seems like it could stir up interest to have some of those contests like it sounded like happened "back in the day," where some interesting characters were made (like someone's were-dinosaur, or were-porpoise, or air-goblin arcane trickster). And that is the sort of thing that could maybe be posted on something like the CharOp forums ("3.5 Core-only optimization challenge: Using only the SRD, create an ECL X character to compete in CoCo") Just a thought. While I procrastinate creating any characters of my own

The grand melee was going to be this year's UnCon event. Unfortunately, with the board move and a number of other things - UnCon is delayed. They are still "planning" it - but at this point it is already 3 months late. I'm basically hoping they get their act together for the spring.
I'm all for hosting a special event of course, but there is a matter of getting it advertised. We'd have to do a lot more work on advertising than I already am and get approval from various sections to approve posting in their sections what is essentially an advertisement.
Honestly though, I'm very happy with the growth of the CoCo. Yes, I'd like to see more active people, but I think that will come with time as more and more people come in. Even if only 1 out of 4 members play - then as we get closer to 100 or more - we start having a good roster. And then hopefully some of the stragglers will participate, etc.
A big hurdle we need to overcome is pitlording. We had 6 fights last week - 3 for 3.5e and 3 for 4e. Of those, I pitlorded 3 of them, one went without a pitlord and the other two were pitlorded by the only other pitlords I have. In other words - I need volunteers.

I'll happily pitlord some 4e fights. I think some kind of special event would definitly get people interested. Even some "fun" holiday events would be good. "How many minions can you kill in 5 rounds" or "How long can you survive against this level X monster" Also, I'm still working on some new maps so there might be a bit more variation in our fights.

Special events are certainly available to be done. If you have a particular one in mind - write up some guidelines for it and post it to the Council. Such things usually take some time to flesh out - so make sure there's enough time to plan it out (if it is tied to a regular event like a holiday). The CoCo has had a few such events before - The Iron Man Tournament, UnCon Character Creation contest and Denth Attacks! were all events that did quite well. There's even some from before I joined that were pretty impressive (though they are all in the archives now).
I will need to rely on others to come up with special events right now as I just have too much on my plate to concentrate on it. I can certainly be used as a sounding board though for ideas.

Well, I'm not sure how much of a difference being featured has been - but the numbers are right there. On December 10th - when we were first featured - we had 56 members. Today, just over a month later, we are up to 83. That's a nice and big jump and I am happy to see it.
A couple of new players are starting this week as well - which is always nice to see. Hopefully with a few more pitlords we'll see a bit more activity in this little group.

When I get the chance, I note the date and the number of members in the group. Since we hit 90 today, I figured I'd show the graph of the results. The spike since being a Featured Group is quite telling: Thanks to everyone who is helping bring the CoCo back into the light as a place to play.

With continued happiness - I just wanted to update the chart above: Great job on the growth of the CoCo. We're starting to see more people come active as well - which is nice and some of the newer teams and characters are starting to level up and will begin filling in the other leagues. As always - avenues for improvement are always open. If someone wants to propose a contest for the CoCo, draw up your rules and we'll see what we can do.

I volunteer to pitlord 4e, but I have so much going on in february that I can't start yet. Hopefully March will give me a bit of a break.
