Valentine's Day has come and gone and I have to say - Where's the love?
The Core Coliseum is always on the look out for new players to join our ranks. Whether your passion is in fighting monsters in 4th edition, fighting opposing characters in 3.5e or pitting teams against other teams in 4th edition, the Core Coliseum has your needs covered. However, we've been plagued with low participation rates for a while now.
What can you do to help?
Well the main thing is to come and be active. You don't have to be active each and every week to be a member - all I'm saying is come and play...
What a busy holiday season!
In addition to just being super busy with the family, work and holiday events, I've just been tired, so getting time for here has been at a premium. I'm sorry I've been relatively negligent during the past month; it certainly isn't the way I like to run things. I'm much more hand's-on than this.
That said, Gladius is still going strong - featuring 5-7 fights per week for quite a while now. The monster arena is getting 1-3 fights per week - and I haven't really been active over there at all (though I'd like to be) - so there's untapped potential there!...
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving here in the US. It is extremely unlikely I'll be available to run pairings and I think we all deserve a brief respite anyway, so I'm invoking the "famed" double-week. This week we will have pairings as normal, but next week, we will take a break.
Please use this time wisely to recruit some new victims participants for the arena! Get your friends, parents, grandparents, children, grand-children, enemies, complete strangers and yes, even politicians and have them come and join.
This time is also well used for creating new characters and/or teams, to explore...
The First Annual Prestige Competition of the Core ColiseumOverall, I think this contest was a success. It set out to get people thinking about higher level characters and where they would start from and end up at. Each character was a distinct entity and everyone approached the competition with a different perspective that was interesting in its own right.I look forward to expanding on this competition next year - so stay tuned! And now - what you've all been waiting for:Since there were only 4 participants, there is only going to be a prize for 1st place. With a total of 17 points and...
The Core Coliseum's Prestige competition still has no entries. We're only a week in though, so you still have time to get an entry in and show just how masterful you are at creating the prestige character you always wanted.
Here's a link to the previous blog post.
I'm real excited about the possibilities of this contest. Are we going to see the CoCo's first Psion Uncarnate? Or maybe a successful Mystic Theurge? Maybe a new take on the somewhat frequent war minds and red wizards?
Announcing the 1st Annual Prestige Competition of the Core Coliseum: Gladius Edition!Ever wanted to try out that prestige class with all those prerequisites, but didn't want to slouch through those lower levels just to qualify? Ever wanted to see what its like to be a dwarven defender in a room full of Shadowdancers?Well this is your chance! Just submit your character design according to the rules and guidelines below and post it to the Official Entry Thread.SpecificsCreate an ECL7 - ECL10 character with at least one level in a prestige class.[sblock=Rough Estimate for minimum ECL to...
The Core Coliseum Monster Arena had a successful inaugural week. We had three fights - two level 1 encounters and a level 5 encounter and despite the pitlords' best attempts, the PCs managed to survive!
But what will happen this week? Who knows! Each of the three teams will be up against a new set of monsters and we'll just have to see how they fare.
If you want to check out the latest section of the Core Coliseum, check out the Monster Arena Quickstart Guide. We'd love to have more "playtesters." As much as gladiators who face life and death each week can be considered "playing"...
Tomorrow, 9 September 2010, marks the introduction of the newest arena of the Core Coliseum: The Monster Arena. Catering to arena combatants within Sagaris, the monster arena promises weekly fights so long as there are combatants ready to take on the challenge.
Anyone who has a team in Sagaris can move the team over to the Monster Arena for a single credit cost. Alternatively, a team can be started fresh in the Monster Arena for no charge.
As before, the Core Coliseum allows for 2 active units (single characters in Gladius and teams of 2 characters in Sagaris) across all arenas for...
Somewhere along the way, life got busy for me and I forgot to take a moment and slow down and appreciate the things that are going on around me.
For instance, I completely missed Core Coliseum's 7th birthday on July 28th. That's right - the Core Coliseum is over 7 years old now. Looking at that, I'm amazed because I joined somewhere around 2005 - so I've now been a member of the community for well over half of the Core Coliseum's existence.
On another, similar note, Core Coliseum just had its 1 year anniversary for becoming a group on the community forums. 1 year ago on Saturday (August...
In the coming months, I'm hoping to introduce some new things to the CoCo. One of the things that is among this list is what to do with elders. Erithmu, my last standing elder for 3.5, pretty much doesn't have time for the CoCo anymore and while he's been good about approving my stuff lately, it occurs to me that he doesn't have much touch with the community anymore - so he might miss something that a more active member might catch.
Likewise, I'm going to be more busy in the coming months (particularly November and on that I will explain later), so it would be nice to have someone take...
