Try your builds at the Core Coliseum

The Core Coliseum has been a long standing tradition of the Wizards Boards. Now in group format, the Core Coliseum is up and running 4e fights each week. However, we are always in need of more players and diverse ideas.

Currently, the Core Coliseum features teams of two characters of the same level paired off against other teams of two characters. We also have limited games of three team free-for-alls and short 4-encounter quests to test out your builds. Most teams start at level 1 and the system allows for leveling all the way to paragon and, later, to epic levels.

Come check out the CoCo for the first time, or all over again, as much is new and changed in the last month. The Core Coliseum allows builds from both Player's Handbooks as well as the monster races from the first Monster Manual.

If you have any questions - feel free to shoot me a PM, drop a comment to this post or simply join the group and post to our forums there.

Hope to see you soon. Good gaming everyone.

    Handbook Makers and Porters

After creating the Warden Handbook I was looking for another to start moving to the Wiki. I have concern about naming the handbooks.

When there are multiple handbooks for the same class, we'll be running into trouble if we are using the class name for the wiki page names. For example, since Swordmages have 4 handbooks so far, they can't all direct to the same Swordmage/Feats, etc.

I propose we use the handbook name (or a shortened handbook name) instead of the class name for the sub pages. I've started the barbarian handbook in this fashion at Destruction Manifest. I plan on moving the Warden pages in the future.

Furthermore, I thought that {class}/ pages could be used as indexes for each class. What does everyone else think about all this?

    Update, 9/29:

It's been unfortunate that the community hasn't been quicker to adopt the wiki for new content. It probably has to do with Wizard's poor initial implementation of the whole community thing. However, the wiki pages that exist now are getting page views. The charop guides in the Main D&D namespace are all in the top 10 popular pages. So users are using the wiki. The handbooks that have been ported already are getting views, also. I've stepped up on my own to copy a few handbooks.

I've ported the Warden's Handbook, Bastion of the Boondooks; the Barbarian's Handbook, Destruction Manifest; the Fighter's Handbook, Hard as a Rock; and am part way through the Swordmage's Handbook.

I have some ideas about how Handbooks might be handled going forward.

    1. I've used charop/wiki/{class} as a root page for each class. Included here would be meta overview information about the class, like links to builds and handbooks.

    2. I've only made 1 handbook per class. Since this is a publicly editable wiki, it is easy for someone else to add a second handbook, if they wish to. I think it would be better, in the interest of consistancy and usabilty if there were only one handbook per class. To handle differing opinions, alternative commentary can be added inline. It would be much easier and more useful for the user if all of the different opinions of a power (for instance) were visible at once, together, rather than navigating to a new page or opening up a new handbook.

Are any group leaders willing to hand down some law and adopt (informal) wiki standards for the group?

    -Aramul (Mike)

P.S. I created a default handbook template which I use when starting each now handbook. If you're interested in copies, send me a PM.

Welcome to the CharOp group! This place should give us the means to pool resources and organize ourselves more effectively. Some of you have already started to upload content to the group wiki (hooray Avenger and Barbarian handbooks), so that's definitely a place to check. There's a poll function around too, which I'm sure will see a lot of use in the future. And as the dust of the board change settles, I'm sure we'll find other ways to use the group. Have fun!

(And if you have an idea, post it, it's your group after all)
