The Chaos Scar map has been updated to show the locations of all pertinent adventures and three new named locales that figure in the latest adventure, "The Slaver's Stone." There's also a version of the map with no cave locations on it, only named locales, for DMs who want to relocate the adventures or provide a blank map to their players. You can find them in the photo gallery of the "Chaos Scar" group. Steve
That's right, we've finally updated the Chaos Scar map with all the locations through today's adventure, The Crawling Fane. Actually, that's not quite true ... Restwell Keep isn't on the map, so they aren't labeled. Everything else is there. Of course, DMs shouldn't feel constrained by our locations. You can put the adventures wherever you want in your game. Make the valley your own! We've never discussed scale on the map, but I think it's about right if the distance from the King's Wall to the Fortress is in the range of 20-25 miles. It takes about two days of cautious travel to reach...

Tomorrow's Chaos Scar installment, Eyes in the Forest, is a single encounter that can be dropped into any Chaos Scar excursion. In it, the heroes stumble across traces left behind by a squad of goblins that just wiped out another group of NPC adventurers. It's a dangerous situation for incautious characters but an opportunity for those that are on their toes. I'm adding revised tags to the map of the valley right now, so an up-to-date map should be available soon. [edit] Obviously, yesterday's tomorrow has become today's tomorrow. There was a delay in getting the art for this article,...

On Tuesday (Mar 23), The Keep on the Chaos Scar will be posted in Dungeon. This article is a description of Restwell Keep, a fortified outpost of civilization near the Scar. Here's a preview of what you'll see: "Here and there, standing on the narrow edge between civilization and the hungry dark, stand a few bastions of justice and law. Restwell Keep, so named by its current inhabitants, is one such edifice. Founded ages ago by a long forgotten lord, Restwell has kept a sentinel’s post over the Chaos Scar for time out of mind. It has served as a hobgoblin warlord’s fortress, a bandit...

This Friday you'll see another 2nd-level Chaos Scar adventure, Dead by Dawn. It's a familiar theme but a bit of a change of pace for D&D and Chaos Scar adventures, so we're looking forward to seeing how DMs and players react to it. It turns out that it's a trickier topic to tackle than you might expect in an RPG like D&D, mainly because the game tries to maintain a careful balance in encounters. I don't want to give away any spoilers here, so I'll wait until next week to discuss it further. Be sure to let us know what you think of it. We should have an updated version of the Scar map...

I'm zipping through the text now for "Shrine of the Glass-Spire Forest" on Tuesday. It's our second 2nd-level CS adventure. Here's the background (for DMs; if you're a player, there's a spoiler in here): Not far from the wall, near one of the existing gaps leading into the valley, the meteorite caused the earth and stone of the valley floor to undergo a transformation as it passed, pulling the land upward into spires of sharp-edged brown- and gray-colored glass. In this location, a shard broke away from the meteorite to land among the newly formed glass spires, where it burrowed into...

In a meeting today, I suddenly realized that we have no online group for the Chaos Scar adventures. We have long-term plans for this campaign, so it was obvious (in hindsight) that "Chaos Scar" is a group name worth controlling. Hence, here I am. I'll do some caretaking here, and Chris Youngs probably will too, being the Chaos Scar overseer-in-general. We'll use the group's wiki as a gathering point for adventure links, adventure synopses, map updates, and whatever else strikes us as useful for Chaos Scar DMs and players. We may kick off a dedicated Chaos Scar forum, too, if we sense...
