Man, I must have pretty conventionally terrible taste in jokes too, 'cause I laughed.

In another thread Erin wrote:

I may have pitched this book as "Twilight plus Labyrinth plus Faust, to a Lady Gaga soundtrack."

Faust was obvious.
Now we know where the Lady Gaga part comes from.
As for Labyrinth: Lorcan fits the David Bowie profile nicely indeed, being a powerful, mysterious creature who has a somewhat antagonistic yet strangely flirtatious relationship with Farideh. (On a labyrinthian note: If you guys haven't already seen it, check Guillermo del Toro's Spanish movie from 2006 El laberinto del fauno = Pan's Labyrinth.)
I haven't read Twilight, but every time it's mentioned, my mind runs off to that quote: "One time I smashed my face into a keyboard and accidentally wrote the fifth Twilight book."

Question:
who would you like to see in the cast, when Brimstone Angels is going to be made into a movie? And who's going to direct it? (Yes, it's gonna happen; winning The Scribe Award will only be the beginning!! :D)

Sorry about the delay--we're traveling and I don't have reliable internet access, as it happens.

Pan's Labyrinth is a lovely film...although that scene with the bottle still haunts me. *shudder* Really effective way of making a villain clearly villainous, and so quick you can't look away.

Heheh! I think it would make for an interesting film. Lot of make-up and prosthetics on the leads, so I wonder how that would affect casting.

As for my casting, I direct you to this post. It's a question I actively avoid answering, believe it or not. I find it has a tendency to mess up my images of the characters. But I'm happy to hear other people's ideas! My favorite answer has actually been from The God Catcher: to one of my readers, Nestrix looked like Rousseau (Mira Furlan) from Lost.

Then don't go see Drive (2011), even though you totally should...

My Brimstone Angels cast
(This is a snap-shot; others will pop into my head and I might edit this. Plus we may not have seen all the characters yet, being halfway through the book.)

Farideh & Havilar - Evan Rachel Wood & Evan Rachel Wood (I guess)
Farideh & Havilar - Alison Lohman & Maggie Grace
Mehen - Mickey Rourke (hardly needs make up)
Lorcan - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Sairché - Cobie Smulders
Brin - idk
Rohini - Laetitia Casta
Yvon - Terry O'Quinn

I can totally see Terry O'Quinn as Yvon.  In fact, I was having a hard time picturing him and now I won't be able to picture him as anyone else!  (Yes, Erin, this confirms what you said about how picturing real people as your characters can ruin the image. That's always the problem with seeing the movie/show before reading the book.)

Nice list! I had to peek--Terry O'Quinn is pretty good! I think in my head Yvon is somewhere between that and Jim Rash. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau seems pretty close too.

I was watching Eureka last night, and Erica Cerra, ten years younger, wouldn't be a bad Farideh/Havilar. She's not what I see, but she's got the right sort of features and skin tone, and Havi's swagger as Lupo. I think the tricky thing with them is getting an actress who could be convincingly buff as Havilar, and be sort of rangy as Farideh.

That and getting someone who can act around the considerable makeup. :p
