I hope Brimstone Angels is okay for younger readers. Look who has a copy!

I skipped your picture, gold_piece. What a cutie!
EDIT: Not responsible for nightmares, uncomfortable questions, your daughter learning curse words, or the incredible media attention you should get if she does read it.

This is my first time particiapting in the book club so I am looking foward to it. I read Brimstone Angels when it was first released and loved it so I am eager to read it again.
This is my first time with the book club, and i have to say i can't wait. I loved this book. And it raised so many things I want to know more about. Lol but I will wait for the other books also. I do love the rise of the dragon-born and devil-born characters.
Welcome to both of you! Hope you enjoy the experience
I've yet to read Brimstone Angels and, I believe, this will be the first of Erin's books I've read - looking forward to it.
Regarding e-book vs. paper copy, I'm still stuck with paper versions because I'm in the UK and WotC aren't selling ebooks over here yet. On the plus side, the cover of Brimstone Angels looks great on the printed version!

I'm a full ebook convert. Physically turning pages these days is a real bummer and books are kind of awkward to hold when compared to the iphone I read on. I still grabbed a physical copy for collection purposes though.
Anyway, I started reading last night and it reminded me how much I liked Havilar.

Welcome to all the new people! The discussion starts on Monday. You'll see a new forum go up each Monday covering around 50 pages (probably a little less because of the smaller print in this one).
And, I'd just like to point out that this is our largest Introductions thread ever!

> But I'm willing to do a Kindlegraph, so you should pick the one you want. And, based on this, I went with the Kindle Edition! Historically, I have loved the Kindle reading experience--primarily, I like the back light so I can read in the dark when putting the kids to sleep; but, I have also gotten a lot of mileage out of the Book Extras, Popular Highlights, and integration with shelfari [though I am primarily a goodreads user]. I do really love the cover to this book--I went to the artists web site & invited him to participiate in the discussion with us.

Welcome, welcome! This is going to be fun!
falling off the sahuagin
*snort* Gemini, I think you're going to love Chapter Five. (Or potentially have an argument with me, but let's think positive!). Obviously, I'm with you--I think the way in which devils are evil opens up the possibility for them to be more relatable. LE means there's a method and an order that you can predict and potentially even identify with...and more importantly perhaps mis-predict and mis-identify, because they're still extra-planar beings with values and goals that are completely alien.
I think I'll end up loving it; I never had a big issue with succubi becoming devils. As your blog post showed, the 3.5 erinyes and succubus are extremely similar, and I think the succubus had more traction in the seducer role. However, they always stood out as demons because they were humanoid, beautiful, and cunning moreso than the rest of their brutish kin, and those are really devilish traits. I'm really interested to hear how that came about in the overall story (as opposed to the metagame reasons). If your blog post is any indication, it seems like you did a lot of heavy thinking as to all the ramifications of the shift.
Ever since 4E was announced and the first tidbits released, everyone with an internet connection has found and discussed somewhere between one and one billion changes that personally got to them. I think I have fewer complaints than many, but one would be the oversimplified alignment system. I think that the 9 alignments presented in earlier editons each had their own unique and important distinctions, and I especially liked LE. I thought the Lawful Evil viewpoint in particular was a lot more interesting than "I AM CHAOS AND EVIL INCARNATE BLAAAAARGH!". The combination of insidiousness and subtlety working in concert with disciplined force and tactics made to me the most fascinating villainous alignment. My interest always got drawn to bad guys such as the devils, Bane, the Zhentarim, etc. Erin makes a good point though of not letting the lawful nature disguise the fact that you're still dealing with devils here, and they are not looking out for anyone's interests but their own.

This is pretty much unrelated to the book, but I actually like the streamlined alignment, though less so the way it was implemented/explained. I feel like the difference between NG and CG, and LE and NE is largely a spectrum (everyone who is primarily driven by their own moral compass is going to follow and not follow rules in some measure; everyone who is evil and not a destructive force of nature is going to adhere to the constructs of society/order in some fashion) and drawing the lines between them can get as fiddly as making the difference between a succubus and an erinyes clear. :p It seems easier once you've decided your character is going to break rules (or your evil character is going to have goals bigger than "raze it") that you let that character be your guide for how much and when. (Can you tell I used to get flustered trying to settle on alignments? My old DM used to shout something about Luke Skywalker and Han Solo when I got into this.... ) That said, I wholly suspect they'll return to the nine-alignment system. Some things just feel like D&D.

Hey all,
My paperbook copy of Brimstone Angels will be arriving today and my weekend starts tomorrow. So. I'll be tagging along and following this. BA will be the third ever game / shared universe novel I'll be reading - Agents of Artifice and Death's Heretic being the other ones - and I have never RPG'd in my life.
Looking forward to this. Enjoy!
edit: I'm posting from The Hague, The Netherlands

Thanks to the wonder of e-books and the fact that I've essentially integrated my Kindle into my bio-matrix, I'm hoping to be able to participate in the book club again after a long absence. I'm very much looking forward to it. Yeh! =)

I picked this book up for the Kindle today so that I could start taking part in the book club discussions again. I am almost ashamed to admit that the last time I participated was when we were reading Downshadow. Hopefully this time I won't get distracted and will be sticking around for a while. Looking forward to chatting with all of you.
