Great News! Added support fo the D&D Books announced!
//begin Bookwyrms A second column we're adding this month concerns things taking place within the world of D&D books. In columns such as Legends & Lore and Design & Development, we're pleased to bring information to you from within Wizards of the Coast. Bookwyrms looks to do much the same. Written by Nina Hess, editor-in-chief for D&D books, the column discusses the making of books, the business behind them, and the elements of writing. //end Maybe Nina Hess can help us get our Book Badge!
It's nice to see this. I would think Wotc would want to put some focus on other products that are unrelated to 4th edition as 4th ed. sales go down in anticipation of 5th ed. The novels line is a great place to try and pick up some sales and put some of those marketing dollars.
And we're really going to have to get that Book Badge!
First Book Wyrms is up. It's on e-books, a really relevant topic to us, considering we just read Shadowbane. Unfortunately, many of the comments that had been posted kind of missed the whole point that the column was about novels.
Isn't it interesting that our last author (Erik) was the first ebook experiment and our next author (Rosemary) just put out the ebook novella. We're really on top of things here!
Anyway, my real hope is that they'll start releasing some of this electronic content to DDI subscribers for free. A novella (like Cold, Steel, and Secrets) would have been perfect to serialize in Dungeon/Dragon. We pay a lot for that subscription and I really feel like they haven't come all the way yet it making it worth the price. I'd also like to see maybe one backlist title a year free for subscribers (this would be a great way to get people to buy the rest of the books in a series by releasing the first one). And, of course, I still don't get why they don't release old Encounters and other exclusive adventures as PDFs for DDI subscibers.
