You won't be able to get a paperback version, as Shadowbane was an eBook-only release. This is Wizards first time experimenting with this type of release, but there was some confusion because they originally had it slated to come out in print as well. There were a few threads discussing this elsewhere on the forum where people were expressing their dissatisfaction. I don't have the links offhand, but maybe someone else can provide them or I'll find them and post them for you at some point.

Thanks for the background - that's a pity. I do like the ebook format; I even went as far as downloading the Nook application for PC to see whether I could read Shadowbane that way, but Nook requires a United States billing address, and my Kindle account is locked to the UK.
I guess I'd like to know how long it's going to take for Wizards to release these ebooks in markets other than the US; it's somewhat frustrating to see them promoted pretty prominently but not be able to purchase them.
Cheers, Steve

I find that emailing specific people in Wizards usually doesn't get a reply, but emailing the customer support (you should be able to find the link on the main D&D page) will at least get a reply and they'll pass it up the chain. I think it's valuable for them to hear that they're losing sales by not providing their eBooks in foreign markets, especially the UK, where you have Amazon.

Thanks for the advice - I'll drop them a line (and report back if there's any new info to be had).

Indeed. I share your frustration at not being able to download the book. I've inquired about it, and it looks like legalities are preventing distribution. Paper copies are much easier to distribute, it seems, which is really ironic. :/
Short of moving to America or getting a friend to buy it for you, if you're in a foreign country you're probably gonna have to wait for the distribution to expand, or WotC to announce a print run. (You never know.)
And we can wait until NaNoWriMo is over before we do the discussion. I'm cool with whatever.
Cheers

I don't have an e-reader so I'll be setting the next discussion out. No worries - I can entertain myself!
I'll be along soon to comment on Shard Axe. I got a little behind on another project but should be able to finish in the next week or so.

You could in theory download the free Kindle or Nook App for your computer and/or smartphone.
Or maybe you're holding out for a paper copy, in which case, I can only recommend contacting WotC's customer service, or mention it on the designated ebook discussion thread in the main forums.
Cheers

That's the thread I was looking for. Thanks, Eric. I will say that the Kindle/Nook computer apps work very well, and they allow you to read at work... not that I do that... that would be wrong. Anyway, I'll also say that this is a great time to buy an eReader with the basic ones going for 79 (Kindle) and 99 (Nook) respectively. There are also the cool new Kindle Fire and Nook tablet coming out. If you have an iPhone or other smart phone, you can probably read on that as well (although that's a tiny screen for reading).
I think we're going to wait until the 21st to start the discussion for Shadowbane both to give people a chance to finish up with The Shard Axe and give people a little more time to figure out this eBook thing.
Remember, Eric has really delivered in the past, so if you're into the Realms, Abyssal Plague, or Neverwinter, you're going to want to participate to pick his brain. He's been a part of some of the bigger product releases lately (like the Neverwinter campaign guide and the Shadowfell box set), not to mention writing two seasons of D&D Encounters. He'll be able to answer your novel and game design questions.

Thanks for the idea of reading the book on my PC. I guess that could work, but after spending 8 hours a day slaving away on a computer, I tend to not want to read a book on my PC. I'm a lay down on the couch with an old-fashioned paper book kinda guy :-)
Let me ask this - is the novel available for download as an audio book? I could do that. I could probably even listen at work with my headphones. Let me know.
