      The way society and environment are designed in Mechanus should not try to emphasize “perfection” (on an individual level) but planning and redundancy where necessary.       slaad and modrons... both seem to exist in a vaccuum
      neither interact with the blood war, githyanki, celestials, sigil or the prime material, they just patiently wait in their outer planes for someone to rock up
      how about link Slaad into bullywugs or kuo toa?
      i don't like the idea of slaad being abherrations, since abherrations are from beyond the great wheel/cosmos, not one chaotic aligned part of it. having said that, you could easily say ALL abherrations come from Limbo

      Some of my fondest memories of my first campaign involve copious amounts of krenshars (our DM just kept rolling them for random encounters somehow so we kept fighting them but no fight was ever the same).

      if I recall correctly, in the 1st ed Dungeoneers Survival Guide, it mentions the Drow eating their elderly when they have not enough food, just like baby spiders devouring their parents. It should be clear that Drow are not all drizzt with a profession change, they are trecherous and debauched at best.

      I cast my vote for the Grizzowl. I had always thought of the beast in terms of the Gryphon as a combined creature (not that the Owlbear belongs to Greek mythology).
      Do you plan on illustrating a mating pair, as the original concept indicates? with a lean enough frame on the female Grizzowl, could wings actually come into play?

      I have to say, as a long-time DM, I absolutely love DnDNext. All you've done, for our group at least, is taken the exact way we play, and gotten rid of all the garbage from every edition into a simplified bounded accuracy. Provided you completely leave level-based stat scaling out of the equation (aside from damage:hp), you have our entire hoard of geeks eagerly awaiting full-blown content =)

      I must say I am so happy with what I have read so far. There are some issues that need to be addressed - The magic (cantrips are a great idea but just too powerful) and dying ( way too difficult to kill a character - there is very little threat). Please do can you now overhaul the public play adopted by WOTC. Hiding D&D in game shops will do as much harm to D&D as this new addition will help it. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO SPREAD THE WORD TO GAME GROUPS, SCHOOLS and PUBLIC EVENTS.

      I'm a big believer in "Getting to Yes." Present the options, all the options, to the players, and see what they latch onto. Then build a game around what they are playing. If they want to play a Tiefling, don't screw them over for wanting to play the Tiefling. Build a story that will accommodate that choice.       My campaign is quasi-historical, so I'm constantly saying no to races I haven't already distorted history to accommodate. I don't care one way or another about the frequency designations, because it should vary greatly from setting to setting.

      I like the idea of limited self healing as it helps the flow of the game. If after every fight the party has to rest for 8 hrs nothing would ever get done or every subsequent fight gets more and more deadly, especially if the adventure has time constraints. It should not be during combat, that is the clerics job or get potions. The Playtest idea is great but may need further scaling if it works out too powerful.

      I feel very strongly that the level of healing generally being discussed trashes the 4th wall. Magic allows for a lot of leeway in modelling, but without magic, healing should take place at a rate akin to reality- or at least no better than a typical action film. I hope you create an optional modular rule doing this, because for those gamers that left at the introduction of 4th ed, I think this is probably the largest issue.       A module for harder resurrection rules would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know that I could run a D&D campaign where raising the dead is hard, but doable, without completely unbalancing the game (so.. keeping save or die effects manageable, instead of Cloud Kill as an at-will for every monster over CR 15).       I voted for "a combination", but in retrospect I really am a "consume" guy. That said, I personally feel that the 4e MM was a little under-fluffed, and I'd like to see more of that brought back (I really like the 4e phb and dmg, though).

      I think that there should be a bit of visual fluff for inspiration, but at the same time I don't want them interfering with the alignment of the text, or the organization of my charts. I feel as although I very much liked the balance in 3e books, that's one complaint I had. I liked the info blocks in 4e, although from memory, I could deal with them being a little more uniform, and a little less "cram all this crap in a tiny card."

      For me art makes a huge difference in how I see a product. Poor art makes me see a product as low quality, while really good art contributes to a positive feeling about the product.
      What do I like in game art? I think it's good to have variety, both in characters and scenarios depicted. It's good to depict heroic characters, but it's also nice to mix in characters looking...

      At the end of the day I really do not aim to limit my players and their choices. Almost all of my group are rookies and to limit them seems unfair. That being said I was making a riverworld campaign and I let everyone know that certain races were not in the world. Now my newest player wanted desperately to play a changling (and I hate those guys). I said that "I can't see how to fit this race into my world/story." Then I sat on it... What a great opportunity to have her shine as a roleplayer...

      In the campaign I'm starting this isnt much a a problem. I have two humans (artificer and ranger), an Eladrin (spellsword), and one Shardmind (Paladin). The Shardmind will be an interesting concept and I plan to use him and his appearance to heavily sway peoples views.

      When opposing, intelligent entities are involved (PC vs PC or PC vs NPC) I always prefer an opposed check (both roll their d20 and compare results) simply because that best represents the struggle between the two parties, allowing both to utilize their strengths or weaknesses instead of making it a one sided affair (in fact, I have the passive AC number for that reason as well, I much rather prefer an opposed roll between two fighters then either passively beating against the other's AC).

      When playing 3.5, one of my groups came across an interesting phenomenon. Someone read an optional rule that basically said your armor class counts as "taking 10" on an attack defense roll and that optionally a player could roll their AC (instead of your actual AC, take the current AC subtract 10, roll a d20 and add it and that is your AC for that attack). In very tight battles many of my players, especially the dwarven defender, insisted on rolling their AC. It made for much more excitement and...
