Caelwyn has a debilitating muscular disorder which, despite having an average frame makes him weaker than average. Because of this and his life of privilege, he was afforded the best education to compensate for his physical disability. He more than made up for this lack by excelling in magical studies which he pursued with a vengeance bordering on the insane.
During his studies he began to realise that his affliction was not natural. Something or someone had magically altered him as a child and it had left him scarred both in body and in soul. Knowing that whoever was behind this malfeasance had to be a part of his family's retinue, he kept his research secret even from his master.
When he uncovered the truth behind it all, he had little choice but to leave his home and family for they were the ones who had inflicted this state upon him. He discovered that his father was not the one he thought, but rather a man whom his mother had had a tawdry affair with and whom carried an ancient sorcerous bloodline. He was born with draconic features, scaly skin, reptilian eyes and a tail. The family wizard had used a transmogrification spell to turn him into a human which had been resisted by his draconic blood, causing his weak physicality.
He took a few possessions and some coin and left his castle home without a word. The only thing he left was a small note with the insignia of the ancient bloodline upon it which he knew, when found, would tell his parents all they needed to know about his disappearance.
Ever since then he has vowed to find his real father and fix the spell that was placed upon him to make him fully human. The only thing he has to go on, however, is the insignia.
Caelwyn dresses in thick, luxurious robes often with mantles and collars that make him look larger or more impressive. He favours deep purples, dark maroons and navy blues usually always with some sort of golden embroidery, often representing magical wards. He leans heavily on an ornate-looking bronzewood staff that seems to have been fashioned especially for him as it has hand-holds as if moulded for him to support himself with them.
Around his robes he always carries a sturdy and lockable leather satchel in which he stores his most precious possession; his spellbook. The satchel is water-proofed and looks thick enough that it could probably even sustain a blast of fire. He takes the security of his spellbook very seriously.
Few people have seen him out of his heavy robes because he chooses not to show his physical form. His arms and legs are twisted and misshapen and his torso is buckled as if carrying a great burden. Despite looking quite strong, his muscles don't quite follow his instructions and so he is significantly weaker than he appears. He is deeply embarrassed by his appearance and will do almost anything to avoid being seen like this.
Caelwyn is friendly enough but keeps his distance and prefers not to open up to anyone. Despite never facing the torment of his peers due to his noble birth, he saw the stares and heard the whispers and feels the sting of people's judgement. He is fiercely independent and always willing to prove his worth because of this and it has also informed his specialisation in magic, leaning towards controlling and manipulating others, especially those who would try to control or manipulate him.
Because of his own infirmity, he has a soft spot for the weak and will step in to defend those who can't defend themselves. Almost ironically, however, he will in the same breath condemn them for not standing up for themselves and scorn them for being weak-willed. He feels that physical strength is nothing compared to mental strength, and those who would give up and not fight are to be pitied.
