_NewbieDM_'s blog listings. Feed Zend_Feed_Writer 1.10.8 (http://framework.zend.com) http://community.wizards.com/_newbiedm_ A system for playing rpg's with my little daughter My daughter is 4, and she is very intrigued by what D&D is. She sees me prepping, the minis, the maps, the book, and she is dying to play.  I created a lite version of an rpg to play with her, called rpgkids.  It uses 2 dice, a d12 and a d6.  It's basically an exercise in number recognition and simple arithmetic for her, desguised as an rpg.  She thinks she's playing D&D though, as it uses minis and tiles and all that good stuff.  Check it out. If any of you guys are parents that have been wanting to introduce your small ones to rpg's, this may fit the bill.

Recent updates to my blog I've updated my blog at Newbiedm.com with a few things in the past few days, and I hope that they may be of interest to some of you:

In my "Warstories" series of articles, I touch on the subjects of handling large battle maps at the table, and player vs. player situations in D&D.

Speaking of maps, I had an opportunity to interview Mike Schley, one of the main cartographers for both D&D 4th Ed. and the Pathfinder RPG.

I've also been busy with reviews, with the latest issues of both Kobold Quarterly and Dungeon Magazine getting the NewbieDM review treatment.  I also reviewed the latest set of Dungeon Tiles, Sinister Woods.

Finally, I put together a questionnaire for DM's to use when facing the prospect of running a campaign with complete strangers.  Sometimes it's good to know certain things ahead of time, and not learn them a few sessions into the campaign.

That's it!  I hope you get a chance to check out my website at newbiedm.com!

Dungeon Tiles I've been thinking about how to best use my Dungeon Tiles lately, and I've found that the best way for me is to design a room, then build the story; rather than try to recreate a room I've designed or found in a published adventrue.

You're just not going to get the tiles to match, and you're going to end up tossing them aside.  I designed a few nice rooms, and the images instantly created the stories for me.

This is an arcane library I created, after I couldn't find any suitable maps online.

Here's another element I plan to add to my dungeon tile encounters:
